The Department of Corrections collaborates with fourteen rural and community jails operated by local police departments across Alaska. These smaller facilities are designated by the Alaska legislature as part of a program that receives allocated funding, which is then administered by the Department of Corrections to support public safety in rural areas. In addition to financial support, the DOC provides operational standards, training, and technical assistance, fostering a valuable statewide partnership with these communities.
The jails currently participating in this program can be found in the following communities and are operated by the local or regional police department.
