Please review the following information before sending items to this facility.
Family or Friends of prisoners may place money on a prisoner's account, only if they are on the prisoner's approved visitor list. Deposits may not exceed $500.00 in a single month per prisoner. Money orders or cashier checks may be mailed into the institution and do not need authorization, as long as you are on the prisoner's approved visitor list. Cash may be placed on an approved prisoner's account, but only in person during normal visiting hours. Personal checks will not be accepted at all and will be disbursed back to the sender. If an approved visitor tries to mail or place money on two or more prisoner books, the money will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender or visitor. Anything suspicious regarding money coming into the institution will be referred to the Security Sergeant for further review and may be returned to the sender.
Prisoners may not enter into credit agreements, installment purchase arrangements, special transactions (selling property or college loans), or other contracts without the approval of the Superintendent or designee. These "credit agreements" include ordering merchandise, magazine subscriptions, authorizing services, etc. without paying in full, in advance.
Inmates are allowed to order and receive publications including magazines, books and newspapers directly from approved vendors. Approved vendors include Edward R. Hamilton Booksellers, Barnes & Noble, Christian Book Distributors, Books a Million, and Walmart.com. Magazines may be ordered from any verifiable publisher but will be screened for appropriate content. In addition, family and friends may order publications for delivery to a prisoner directly from an approved vendor. Magazine subscriptions and Newspaper subscriptions to the Peninsula Clarion and Anchorage Daily News are allowed as long as they are preapproved.
Packages are not accepted from outside sources other than from approved vendors that the prisoner must send for with prior authorization. Immediate family and friends on the prisoner's approved visiting list may place money on a prisoner's account but may not send gifts to an institution. If a gift is received it will be returned to the sender unopened.
You must be on that prisoner's approved current visiting list to send a certified check or money order to place on their account for purchasing other approved items. Deposits may not exceed $500.00 per prisoner in a single month.
Friends and Family may send in paperback books with prior approval that the prisoner must obtain. All books ordered must be new. Used books will not be accepted. Hamilton Book Sellers, Christian Book Distributers, Walmart.com, Books a Million are the approved vendors. Magazines may be ordered from any verifiable publisher but will be screened for content.
The prisoner must have prior approval from the Property Department before ordering, so property limits can be reviewed. There might be excess books and/or magazines that need to be disbursed or donated.
All other property items require prior approval from the Property Department.
Postage stamps may not be sent to prisoners. Prisoners may only purchase stamps or postage through commissary or via DOC postage meter.
Prisoners may disburse their excess personal property by mail or by having family and/or friends pick it up at the institution.
