The Department of Corrections welcomes Xavier Frost to the helm of the Human Resources team. Frost was hired as Human Resources Manager and assumed his new duties August 1st. He is based in Anchorage. Frost, who grew up largely in Phoenix, Arizona, comes to the state from the Municipality of Anchorage where he worked first as a recruitment specialist and then as Senior Investigator for the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission. Previously Frost was a human resources professional for the City of Phoenix. Frost earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety from Grand Canyon University and is two classes shy of completing a Master’s Degree in Human Resources from Ottawa (Kansas) University. “I’m really enjoying working with a very professional and very knowledgeable staff,” Frost said. “The support and positive welcome I’ve received has been terrific.”

News, Events, and Activities in the Alaska Department of Corrections
Department of Corrections administrative staff from across the state met in Anchorage June 25-27 for open communications and training for administrative support staff. The conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel, with morning and afternoon sessions held over three days. Topics included budget, procurement, IRIS implementation, travel, records and research, human resources and ACOMS. Opening comments were presented each day by Commissioner Joe Schmidt, Deputy Commissioner Ron Taylor and Deputy Commissioner Leslie Houston, respectively. Presenters included Admin Services Director Kevin Worley, Procurement Chief John Schauwecker, Deputy Director April Wilkerson, Teresa Kesey, Mike Matthews, Amanda Morris, Kerie Aerni, Greg Gendron and Dana Phillips. Logistics and organization for the conference was managed by Dianne Godkin.
Sponsored by Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence, the Choose Respect event in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor was held on March 31 at Unalaska High School. The rally was combined with an Annual Soup-a-Thon where community members bring crock pots filled with delicious soups and the soups are judged by a panel in each category: Exotic, Vegetarian, Seafood, Chowders and Stews, Chilis, and Youth Open Category. The winning soup chefs are presented with a $50 gift certificate. In addition to the Soup-off, the event is a fundraiser for the local shelter with donated items for silent and live auctions as well as door prize drawings. The shelter raised $14,000 in funds. Director of Administrative Services Leslie Houston attended as representative of the Administration.
